The absolute minimum is around 2–4 weeks if you do an intensive course (intensivkurs). These courses compress all mandatory training into a short period. However, they are expensive and not suitable for everyone.

Typical timeline

For most people following a standard training path, expect:

6 to 18 months from starting to passing the practical test

Statens vegvesen recommends at least 2 years of training before taking the practical test – not as a requirement, but as guidance for building experience
