Norwegian driving licence categories
Norway follows the European driving licence system. Here is an overview of the main categories and what you can drive with each one.
Category B – Passenger car
This is the most common licence category. With Category B you can also tow a trailer up to 750 kg, or heavier trailers as long as the combined weight does not exceed 3,500 kg.
Category BE – Car with heavy trailer
Category B96
A sub-category of B that allows combinations up to 4,250 kg. Requires a short mandatory course but no new driving test.
Category A – Motorcycle
Category A2 – Medium motorcycle
Category A1 – Light motorcycle
Category AM – Moped
Category C – Lorry
Category C1 – Light lorry
Category D – Bus
Category T – Tractor
Category S – Snowmobile
