USA and Canada citizens in Norway — if you’re looking to get your full Class A (heavy motorcycle) license, Metro Trafikkskole is the school to choose. I reached out to all the schools in the Oslo area, and this was the only one willing to help me in English. They had a good idea what was required for riders coming from North America and made the entire process much easier to navigate. The Norwegian motorcycle exam is different from what you may be used to. It has three parts: the skills test (like the North American MST), a safety check and quiz where you’re expected to demonstrate knowledge of your bike, and finally the full road test. Metro ensures you’re well-prepared for all three stages. They’ll drill the cone weaves, emergency stops, tight turns, and other exercises until they feel natural, and you'll get plenty of time practicing on the road as well. You will also get a discount from some of the equipment shops - you will need the full helmet, jacket, pants, boots, gloves and intercom to practice and to take the exam. If you train here, I strongly recommend asking for Andreas Bentzen. He’s patient, speaks excellent English, and has a very clear way of explaining not only the technical riding skills but also the habits examiners want to see on Norwegian roads. My advice is to plan for at least 8-10 sessions with an instructor like Andreas. That gives you time to refresh the drills, review the safety questions, and get confident riding in traffic under Norway’s rules. Remember — you only get two chances to exchange your license, and failing twice means starting over from scratch like a new rider requiring all the mandatory courses. And don't forget — you can't use your North American license anymore after your first 3 months in Norway! On exam day, don’t forget your passport, and keep in mind that Norwegian traffic flow is not as aggressive as North America. Ride a little under the limit if you need to, scan far ahead, and focus on safety above all. Lykke til!
